County Commission Meeting
The Blount County Board of Commissioners meets the third Thursday of each month in room 430 of the Blount County Courthouse. The next meeting is Thursday, January 15th, 2009 . YOU SHOULD BE THERE ! Items of interest for this meeting include the election of County Commissioner, District 5, Seat A, to fill vacancy caused by Bob Ramsey recent election victory to the State House of Representatives. The other District 5 Commissioner, Dr. Bob Proffitt, has nominated Dale Huddleston to fill the seat. Mr. Huddleston is an Environmental Manager with Alcoa, Inc. and holds a degree in Environmental Science from Purdue University. His very impressive resume shows his dedication to Blount County in his having served on many boards including the Chamber of Commerce, Blount County Red Cross, EHAT, The Little River Watershed Assn and he is a graduate of Leadership Blount. Of course simply being qualified does not guarantee he will get sufficient votes to win. Others are expected to be nominated including an ex Republican Party Chair with deep family ties to Blount County. It should be interesting to see if party loyalty and family connections trump a quality education and superior qualifications. I know who my money is on…
